Rallies 2003

Cleethorpes 2003

CLEETHORPES (the sweaty rally)

Having previously arranged to meet Jimmy Jazz between 10am and 10:30am, where the A46 crosses the A52 at Bingham, myself and Dawn set off at around 9:15 to meet him, arriving at the shell garage at Bingham at 10:05. We were soon joined by scooters from the Olympics S.C. and one lad from Modrapheniacs S.C, but still no Jimmy. During my little chat with the lad from Modrapheniacs S.C (his name escapes me) i was informed that they were all meeting the Mansfield Monsters S.C at the cafe on the A46 on the other side of Newark, and as this was where we going to stop for brekkie i had visions of massive queues and nowhere to sit, so wanted to leave straight away, only....STILL NO JIMMY. 10:30 arrived but Jimmy still hadn't graced us with his presence and having rang his mobile he was either on his way or ignoring my call.

10:32 and guess who drove round the corner as if nothing was wrong, so after a quick telling off we set off for the cafe, arriving just before a coach load of people as well as the Monsters S.C so we got our brekkie and a table quite easily

We set of again for sunny Cleethorpes only for a van to overtake Jimmy and forced him to stop because he had something hanging underneath his scooter. Jimmy thanked the nice man and explained to him that all scooters have stands otherwise they tend to fall over when parked (what a prat). After stopping briefly for fuel, where i tested all our brakes by stopping at the last minute (was just making sure they were all awake),we entered in to Grimsby and i decided it was quicker to take another route rather than through town (which turned out to be about the same distance actually Jimmy). On entering Cleethorpes Jimmy reminded me of our priorities so we went to the nearest off licence to stock up before we hit the camp site.

All loaded up with alcohol we arrived at the camp site at about 1:15 to find there was no-one on the gate to take our money so we went straight in to set up ii camp only to find MrBean, Angelica & tribe and Dobby had beaten us and were already setting up the ii village. Beer opened we put up our erections and was pestered by a man who wanted money for camping (how rude).

DM's arrived soon after having done a detour to Warrington to pick up Earl and slowly but surely the ii village was filling up as Billy (Dunnys bro) and his misses and friends arrived, followed by Olly & his mate, T & Munchkin, Dunny, Nobby & his misses and finally, to great sqeals of delight, Miinnxy & Madge. Dellortto and his good lady also made a brief appearrence before shooting off back home (the perks of living local). Earl sat in his reinforced chair, beer stacked next to him, watching us all put up our erections and as soon as the Edinburgh Blues turned up disappeared over to them. T'is ok m8 we understand, none taken. My son David and his 2 mates appearred in their van as well.

After sitting around in the warm evening sunshine consuming a few units of alcohol we all stirred into action to head off into town. Unfortunately, due to this rally being very children unfriendly, we split up with some going to the pub whilst myself, Dawn,Miinxxy & Madge went to the Winter Gardens for the rally do. On the way up to the do i was dragged kicking and screaming into MacDonalds and force fed not 1 but 2 cheeseburgers. Inside the do we found a table quite easily as there was not too many people in there at the time and i set of with my Brewers Droop flyers to circulate and bother every-one to take a flyer as well as see who was about. I must apologise to Miinxxy & Madge for leaving them most of the night and thank them for looking after Dawn, but unfortunately i tend to disappear for long periods and natter to a lot of people. Dawns always telling me off for it, so dispite not having seen you both for a while i didn't get chance to natter to you much.

Having been thrown out of the do at closing time (was i really the last one to leave), myself and Dawn took a slow walk back along the beach(and walking was the only physical exercise we did before you lot get any ideas), and as it was getting light we sat on the beach watching the sun rise. I also used this opportunity to try and get my own back on Tony 1 shirt and Andy H by texting them in the early hours. We then went back to the camp site to find Earl and 1 or 2 others still up so had a natter before returning to the ii village and waking most of them up before retiring to bed (sorry).

Having had very little sleep we arose out of our tent into bright sunlight to mingle with our ii family but (due, i think, to having woke most of them up)detected a bit of a cold reception so went off in search of breakfast.

Fed and watered we returned to the ii village where i think we had been forgiven and caught up with what everyone had been upto. We were shortly joined by Batty and Nigel of the Brewers and Mr & Mrs Cad as well as Big N who was down for the day. Miinxxy & Madge had to go as they had a wedding to go to down south and i missed their departure so didn't get chance to say bye.

The rest of the morning was spent mooching round the trade stalls and chatting to peeps before most of the ii went off into town to do christmas shopping, whilst Dawn, David and his mates went off to the pub leaving me to try and catch up on my missed sleep. This proved nigh on impossible with the combination of the noise and the heat as it was a extremely hot afternoon. I finally gave up and came out of my tent to find Alia had arrived. Myself and Dawn shot of into town to get our alcoholic supplies and on our return Dawn and T produced a birthday cake to celebrate DM's, MrBeans and my son Davids birthdays. More was to follow for MrBean, who was stripped of his t-shirt, blind folded, dragged out into the open, covered in treacle and plastered with the contents of a pillow making him look like a very shappy sheep. I thought it was a bit rude of Angelica not to give him a cuddle and a kiss when he asked her for one.

By now we were being entertained by the music coming from up the road from a open air concert that included tribute bands to Blondie and Madness, so some of the ii went of to that whilst some went to the pub and myself, Dawn, David, Batty & Nigel went off to the Winter Gardens for the do. We were joined later on by Jimmy Jazz, Nobby, Olly, and Mr & Mrs Cad. The temperature in side the Winter Gardens was slightly colder than the equator and everyone was sweating buckets. and infact when The Beat hit the stage Rankin Roger was wearing a parka which he soon removed. Judging by the amount of people who had been ripped off, sorry, i meant bought a The Beat t-shirt, there was quite a fan club waiting for them to come on stage and when they did they didn't let us down. They played an excellent set going through all their hits as well as a few others.

As soon as The Beat came off stage, as the hummitity had got unbearable and it felt like i couldn't sweat any more, myself, Dawn, Jimmy and Mr & Mrs Cad left for the campsite only to find MrBean was the only one still up still celebrating his birthday, so, after a brief natter and a bite to eat, we all retired to bed. Jimmy had very kindly given up his tent for Mr & mrs Cad to sleep in only for Mrs Cad to moan about the lack of an airbed and pillows, theres no pleasing some folk. At this point i must thank everyone for making all that mess outside my tent, although i suppose i should be grateful as Earl had wanted to put it inside my tent.

We awoke Sunday morning with half the tents down, so Dawn and i quickly set about taking ours down and chucking all our gear into Davids mates van. We said our goodbyes as everyone started to leave and after stopping in town for brekkie set of home.

So yet another brilliant weekend had ended and all we can do now is look forward to the next one at Burton, where we will at least not have to split up and go our seperate ways at night. So a big thank-you to all in attendance and we shall do it all again in 2 weeks.

see you all there
